Electromagnetic susceptibility (EMS) testing is an essential part of EMC testing, assessing how well electronic devices remain immune to external electromagnetic disturbances. A fundamental understanding of radio frequency (RF) principles is therefore essential to understanding how EMS tests work and how electromagnetic energy interacts with a device under test. This poster introduces the fundamentals behind EMS testing and applies them to practical considerations, including putting together a radiated test setup, selecting the correct amplifier, and more. These fundamentals help engineers design effective EMS tests and ensure electronic devices operate reliably in real-world electromagnetic environments.
