Comparing Parameters of Shunt-based and Hall-based Current Sensors
Measuring current is a necessity in many electrical setups, and it’s often accomplished using either:
Shunt-based solutions, where a shunt resistor transforms current into a low- voltage signal that is then amplified using a current-sense amplifier.
Hall-based solutions, which, capitalizing on the Hall Effect, generate a voltage (Vhall) across a biased Hall plate due to the magnetic field (B) produced by a current-carrying wire (I).
Advantages of Hall-Effect Sensors:
Integrated Hall sensors offer numerous benefits over shunt-based alternatives, particularly in high-voltage, high-current, or out-of-range detection scenarios.
