While most of the power semiconductor industry focused on wide-bandgap materials like SiC and GaN, David Jauregui took a different approach by focusing on traditional silicon. Based on his previous experience working with GaN at International Rectifier, he co-founded iDEAL Semiconductor to develop SuperQ. This power MOSFET architecture improves both voltage-blocking and conduction performance using established, low-cost silicon infrastructure.
In this keynote interview, Jauregui shares his journey from test engineer to startup founder and explains the mechanics of SuperQ. He also discusses why supply chain scale is critical—noting that the silicon industry can draw on roughly 300 silicon fabs worldwide, compared with about 10 SiC-capable facilities. This existing capacity will play a major role as the power semiconductor market continues to grow rapidly.
